New direct lines place the port of Patras at the core of Eastern Mediterranean - Europe cargo flows
The Port of Patras S.A. is pleased to announce the signing of a Letter of Intent for the start of a direct maritime connection between the Port of Patras and the Ports of Egypt, in the context of strengthening trade and transport ties between the two countries.
This agreement reflects the converging will of the two countries to create a new, safe and dynamic maritime trade corridor, as well as the intention of the Egyptian shipping company Pan Marine Shipping to initiate discussions on the operation of freight and passenger coastal shipping between Patras and Egypt.
This specific development constitutes a strategic milestone for the port of Patras, as:
- places the Port of Patras at the epicenter of Eastern Mediterranean - Europe cargo flows,
- strengthens its role as an international combined transport hub,
- creates new prospects for the logistics chain, exports and the Greek economy, and finally
- substantially upgrades the geoeconomic position of Western Greece.
This initiative comes as a practical confirmation of the strategic extroversion of OLPA, which in recent years has been implementing a coherent plan of international collaborations, expanding the port's footprint beyond the traditional European axes and forming new bridges with highly dynamic markets.
The connection between Greece and Egypt via Patras constitutes a geostrategic investment in the future of maritime transport, with multiplier benefits for trade, employment in Patras and the Region of Western Greece, as well as the international position of our country.
Chairman of the Board and CEO Panagiotis G. Anastasopoulos stated: "By signing this agreement, Greece is essentially strengthening its role as a key freight transport hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, it is reviving a maritime relationship of thousands of years between Patras and Egypt, adapted to today's needs. The port of Patras is being upgraded and now acquires a central role as a modern transport hub, with benefits for trade, the economy and the wider region."
The Port of Patras Authority continues to work with consistency and vision, proving that the port of Patras can and should play a leading role in the broader Mediterranean shipping map.
